Ableton Live 12.4 combines one large collaboration feature with several smaller changes that can save time every day. Ableton's official overview lists Link Audio, Learn View, device updates, improved stem separation, Quick Tags, and arrangement refinements.
The headline feature is Link Audio
Link Audio can stream audio in real time between compatible Link peers on a shared wired or wireless network. Live and Push can send and receive; Move and Note can send. This could simplify writing sessions where one person sketches on Move while another records in Live. Network conditions still matter, so record an important performance locally as well as monitoring the stream.
Faster editing and better retrieval
Stem separation can process only the audible or selected portion of a clip, reducing unnecessary work. A new merge option can combine chosen stems into one track, which is useful for tasks such as removing a vocal from a reference section. Separation artifacts remain source-dependent, so it should not be presented as access to original multitracks.
Quick Tags now lets you create tags and tag groups while tagging. That sounds minor, but a personal vocabulary such as "dry vocal chop", "wide transition", or "soft transient" can make a large library more searchable than vendor folder names.
Learn View moves structured lessons into the application, and Copy Time adds a direct arrangement command. Device changes cover Erosion, Chorus-Ensemble, Delay, Wavetable, and Drum Sampler.
Update without losing the session
Finish urgent deliverables first, back up the project, and test the update with third-party devices and plug-ins. New features matter only if the session remains recallable.
